The majestic halls of the Marriott Hotel in Bethesda, Maryland, became the epicenter of a defining moment in diaspora leadership as the Council of Ewe Associations of North America convened its thirty-third annual convention. Distinguished dignitaries, eminent statesmen, revered traditional rulers, and committed diaspora citizens gathered under one roof to reaffirm their collective mandate to advance Eweland. At the helm of this historic assembly stood its President, William Livingstone Edem Kumah, whose visionary leadership continues to shape the destiny of the organization.

With the solemnity befitting the occasion, President Kumah opened the convention by reminding delegates that while passion may bring joy, purpose is what gives a people their enduring meaning. Addressing an illustrious audience that included Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin; Ghana’s Ambassador to the US , H.E Victor Emmanuel Smith, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, the President articulated a comprehensive and forward-looking agenda anchored on the theme “Preserving Culture, Inspiring Generations.”

At the center of this year’s convention was a groundbreaking healthcare vision. In a bold demonstration of diaspora resolve, the organization announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Cancer Research and Treatment Center, a flagship institution poised to transform medical care across Eweland. Through a strategic partnership with the University of Health and Allied Sciences, this facility will address critical gaps in oncology, hematology, and scientific research. Echoing the profound wisdom of former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, that dreams must be big enough to inspire courage, President Kumah issued a ceremonial call to corporate partners, philanthropists, and global stakeholders to join CEANA in building this life-saving legacy.

The convention also witnessed a historic strengthening of CEANA’s financial foundation. In a moment of institutional significance, President Kumah formally inaugurated the CEANA Endowment Fund, governed by a dedicated Board of Directors. Modeled after the world’s most respected financial institutions, this permanent fund ensures long-term economic sovereignty and guarantees CEANA’s capacity to support transformative development projects for generations to come.

Equally central to the President’s ceremonial address was the imperative to fortify the human architecture of the organization. Acknowledging the longstanding complexities of youth engagement, President Kumah emphasized that the construction of physical monuments must be matched by the cultivation of future leaders. Affirming that it takes a village to raise a leader, he called upon elders, parents, and community stewards to mentor, empower, and integrate the youth into CEANA’s leadership pipeline, ensuring continuity of vision and preservation of heritage.

The resounding success of the Bethesda convention stands as a testament to disciplined planning, unwavering commitment, and exemplary teamwork. Presidential commendations were extended to his lieutenants, Vice President , Mrs. Akpene Ametepi; Mrs. Senam Bulla for her meticulous organizational oversight skills; Second Vice President , Mr. Vincent Kosi for strategic mobilization; Convention Manager, Ms. Abla Toffa; and the entire Local Planning Chapter for their exceptional coordination, hospitality, and cultural stewardship.

As delegates departed Bethesda, one message rang with ceremonial clarity: culture is our blueprint, but bold, unified action is the legacy we must bequeath to future generations.
