The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced a temporary suspension of most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31, citing critical maintenance and systems upgrades designed to strengthen security and improve long‑term service delivery.
This operational pause comes at a time when the Embassy manages one of the heaviest consular workloads in West Africa, processing over 300 U.S. passport applications and more than 1,000 visa applications every single day. The temporary suspension is expected to ease internal pressure as technicians work to modernize infrastructure and recalibrate systems that support thousands of applicants weekly.
Despite the pause, the Embassy confirms that emergency consular services, passport pickups, and adult passport renewals will continue uninterrupted, ensuring that urgent travel and documentation needs are met.
Officials say full routine consular operations will resume on August 3, restoring visa interviews, routine passport services, and other standard consular functions.
The Embassy’s announcement underscores the mission’s commitment to maintaining secure, efficient, and modern facilities capable of supporting Ghana’s rapidly growing demand for U.S. travel and immigration services.
