There are people who cross our paths during our formative years and leave an indelible mark on our hearts. They don’t just witness our history; they help preserve it. The late Mr. Kwaku Adzaho, affectionately and universally known to us as “Mr. Smiles,” was precisely that kind of soul.
As the premier go-to photographer for high schools and institutions across Anloga, Keta, and the wider Southern Volta region, Mr. Smiles was a staple of our youth. To say he was just a photographer would be an understatement, he was the visual historian of our happiest moments, the custodian of our memories, and a beacon of pure joy.

The Man Behind the Lens
Mr. Smiles earned his legendary moniker honestly. Before the click of every shutter, his signature directive would echo with warmth: “Smile!”
But he didn’t just ask for a smile; he gave one right back. He possessed a rare, gentle, and quiet disposition, always wearing an infectious grin behind the camera that instantly melted away any teenage awkwardness or camera shyness. He was a master of his craft, knowing exactly how to position you, adjust your posture, and coax out a genuine, radiant expression.
Through his lens, he didn’t just take pictures; he captured our essence, our laughter, and the vibrant spirit of our school days.
A Legacy of Hard Work and Pride
Beyond his artistic eye, Mr. Smiles was a brilliant and resilient entrepreneur. He turned a passion into a lifelong vocation that sustained his family and uplifted entire communities.
Years after the school gates had closed behind us, meeting him in his later years was a profound privilege. To see him standing proudly in the home he built from his life’s work was a beautiful testament to his dedication. He introduced his home not with arrogance, but with the quiet, dignified pride of a self-made man who knew he had poured his heart into his life’s calling. He was a photographer who reached countless hearts, bringing immeasurable joy to our youthful days.
Our Deepest Condolences
To the family he leaves behind, we offer our most sincere and heartfelt condolences. We share in your grief, but we also share in the immense pride of the beautiful legacy he left behind. Thank you for sharing him with us. Please know that his memory is etched securely in the hearts of thousands of students whose youth he so beautifully preserved.
Mr. Kwaku Adzaho taught us all how to frame life through a lens of joy. Though his camera has gone quiet, the smiles he gifted us will live on forever in our old photo albums and our fondest memories.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
