President John Dramani Mahama conducted an emergency visit to the Akosombo Dam today to personally assess the extent of damage at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substation following a recent fire outbreak. The incident, which severely impacted the facility’s operations, resulted in the immediate loss of over 1,000 megawatts from the national grid, causing significant disruptions to the country’s power supply.
During his tour of the site, the President received detailed briefings on the cause of the blaze and the technical challenges currently facing the transmission network. President Mahama closely inspected the ongoing restoration works and took a moment to commend the technical teams and engineers on-site, praising their swift and professional response in the wake of the crisis. He noted that their round-the-clock efforts have been instrumental in preventing further degradation of the system and are vital to bringing the grid back to full capacity.
Addressing officials and the media, the President reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to resolving the current energy deficit. He emphasized that the administration is not only focused on the immediate repair of the GRIDCo substation but is also prioritizing long-term investments to strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
President Mahama assured the public that every necessary resource is being deployed to restore a stable and reliable power supply to homes and industries across the nation as quickly as possible.
