President John Dramani Mahama has underscored his administration’s resolve to deliver balanced, people‑centered national development during a high‑level engagement with the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, led by Nene Sakite II.

In his briefing to the traditional leaders, the President outlined what he described as steady gains in Ghana’s economic recovery, improved macroeconomic stability, declining inflation, a strengthening cedi, and the country’s renewed capacity to meet its debt obligations despite global economic pressures. He emphasized that these indicators reflect a rebuilding economy positioned for sustained growth.

President Mahama highlighted ongoing work to operationalize the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) at Bunso, describing it as a strategic investment in Ghana’s future workforce and innovation capacity. He also pointed to expanded infrastructure projects, strengthened local governance, and renewed attention to healthcare delivery as pillars of the national development agenda.

A key policy shift, he noted, is the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund, which now allows Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to retain 80 percent of their allocations. According to the President, this reform is already empowering local authorities to accelerate community‑level development, including the rollout of 24‑hour economy markets across the country.

While acknowledging progress, President Mahama stressed that youth unemployment remains one of the nation’s most urgent challenges. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding private‑sector growth, industrialization, and modernized agriculture as the surest pathways to sustainable job creation.

On healthcare, the President assured the Chiefs that the Eastern Regional Hospital project remains a priority and will be completed. He further announced plans to commence three additional hospital projects to strengthen access to quality healthcare nationwide. Flagship interventions—including Free Primary Health Care, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), and expanded health infrastructure—remain central to improving national wellbeing, he said.

President Mahama expressed deep appreciation for the continued support of traditional authorities, emphasizing that national transformation is strongest when government and chieftaincy institutions work in partnership. He reaffirmed that this collaboration will remain a cornerstone of Ghana’s development journey.
