Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, representing President John Dramani Mahama, held a high-level engagement with the Ghanaian community in Vic, Spain, following her attendance at the 4th High-Level Meeting of the “In Defence of Democracy” Initiative.
The Vice President was accompanied by a senior delegation including Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain H.E. Kulsoume Sinare Baffoe, Chief of Staff to the Vice President Alex Segbefia, and former NDC National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
The gathering served as a platform for the government to connect with traditional leaders, the Ghana Union, and various diaspora associations residing in the region.
During the session, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang extended greetings from the President and praised the diaspora for their role in maintaining Ghana’s positive reputation on the international stage.
She emphasized the government’s dedication to deepening relations with Ghanaians abroad while providing an update on national priorities such as inflation control and economic stabilization. The Vice President detailed the administration’s transition toward a production-driven economy supported by the “Big Push” initiative, alongside specific agricultural interventions designed to enhance local food production and food security.
The briefing also covered a range of social and economic policies aimed at fostering inclusive growth across the country. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the implementation of the “No-Fees Stress Policy,” the distribution of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls, and the expansion of primary healthcare services.
Furthermore, she outlined the strategic roles of the Goldbod programme, the 24-hour economy model, and the Women’s Development Bank in the nation’s broader development agenda. Concluding the engagement, the Vice President expressed her gratitude for the warm reception in Vic and urged the community to remain active partners in Ghana’s ongoing economic transformation.
