Chicago Ghanaian Community Mourns the Royal Transition of Barima Kwasi Agyepong

The Ghanaian community in Chicago is preparing to honor the life and legacy of Barima Kwasi Agyepong, who transitioned at the age of 48. His sudden passing has stirred deep sorrow among family, friends, and the wider community, many of whom remember him for his humility, cultural pride, and unwavering commitment to unity.

The Planning Committee, together with the bereaved family, has announced a series of services to celebrate his life and offer communal support during this difficult period. The wake will be held on Friday, April 17 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, 600 East 35th Street, Chicago, IL

Leak & Sons Funeral Home, located at 7838 S. Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL. This gathering will allow loved ones and community members to pay their respects and stand with the family in solemn remembrance.

A funeral service will follow on Saturday, April 18 at 10:00 AM at Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, 600 East 35th Street, Chicago, IL. Clergy, community leaders, and families across the city are expected to attend in solidarity as they celebrate Barima Agyepong’s life, faith, and contributions.

The final observance, a Royal Thanksgiving Service, will take place on Sunday, April 19 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana – Redemption Congregation, 741 East 84th Street, Chicago, IL. This service will honor his memory with worship and cultural reverence befitting his standing within the community.

The Planning Committee is encouraging pastors, congregations, organizations, and the wider Ghanaian diaspora in Chicago to attend these services in support of the family.
