The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has firmly dismissed widespread social media claims suggesting that the sector minister sponsored individuals with business‑class tickets to Germany for the Black Stars’ international friendly matches.
In a statement issued on March 29, 2026, the Ministry described the circulating allegations, accompanied by a short video filmed at the airport, as “false and without any basis,” urging the public to disregard the misleading narrative.
According to the Ministry, the individuals seen in the viral clip are not associates, beneficiaries, or acquaintances of the Minister. They were simply Ghanaians who happened to be in the departure tunnel at the same time the Minister was boarding his flight. The brief interaction captured on video, the Ministry explained, was casual and typical of encounters between public officials and citizens in public spaces.
The Ministry emphasized that the Minister traveled alone to Germany on official assignment to meet the Black Stars team and technical staff ahead of their friendly match. No staff member, delegation, or sponsored supporter accompanied him.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the statement stressed, “the Ministry has not committed any funds—whether from its budget or through corporate sponsorship, towards the two international friendly matches.” It further clarified that no arrangements of any kind had been made to facilitate fan travel, upgrades, or sponsorships.
The Ministry described the viral claims as part of a growing trend of misinformation targeting public officials and reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public resources.
The statement was signed by Bagbara Tanko, Head of Public Relations and Communications at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
As the Black Stars continue their international engagements, the Ministry is urging the public to rely on verified information and avoid amplifying unsubstantiated social media content.
