The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has issued a strong public update on its ongoing investigation into SESI‑EDEM Company Limited and its owner, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah‑Atokple, who has now been formally declared a person of interest and is wanted to assist with the probe.

The announcement follows growing public speculation and conflicting media reports about the status of the case, prompting EOCO to release a detailed clarification dated March 30, 2026.

According to the Office, the matter began in November 2025, when J.G. Resources Ltd, in collaboration with Unigold Trading LLC, petitioned EOCO to investigate what they described as a major case of Defrauding by False Pretenses and Money Laundering. The petition alleged that SESI‑EDEM Company Limited failed to deliver 50 kilograms of gold valued at GH₵ 57,759,594.68, despite receiving payment.
EOCO confirmed that the allegations fall under multiple legal provisions, including sections of the Economic and Organised Crime Act (Act 804), the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), and the Anti‑Money Laundering Act (Act 1044).
The Office stated that it extended a formal invitation to Kwamigah‑Atokple in November 2025, but he failed to appear. Preliminary findings, EOCO said, revealed that SESI‑EDEM’s bank account contained funds reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime. As a result, the account was frozen, and the freeze was confirmed by a court order on January 30, 2026.
In February, SESI‑EDEM sought a review order to overturn the freeze. EOCO noted that the court’s review did not consider Section 38 of Act 804, which empowers the Office to preserve funds believed to be linked to criminal activity while investigations are ongoing.
EOCO emphasized that no charges have yet been filed, contrary to claims circulating on some online platforms. The Office stressed that the investigation remains active and that SESI‑EDEM Company Limited will not be considered formally charged until a charge sheet is filed before a competent court.
The Office further disclosed that the directors of SESI‑EDEM have repeatedly failed to honor lawful invitations. EOCO stated that it will now employ “lawful means” to locate, identify, and arrest the directors to assist with the investigation.
The Office has urged the public to disregard unverified media reports and rely solely on official updates as the investigation progresses.
For now, EOCO maintains that the matter remains under active investigation and that efforts to locate Dr. Kwamigah‑Atokple and the directors of SESI‑EDEM Company Limited are ongoing.
The release concludes with a clear declaration: Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah‑Atokple is wanted by EOCO.
