President John Dramani Mahama held high-level bilateral talks today with the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, to reaffirm the long-standing partnership between the two nations.

The diplomatic engagement resulted in the signing of three pivotal Memoranda of Understanding focused on maritime security, climate change cooperation, and digital technology.

These agreements are intended to deepen collaboration and address modern global challenges through a unified strategic framework. During the meeting, President Mahama emphasized the shared history and democratic values that underpin the relationship, noting that their mutual commitment to human rights has allowed both countries to align closely within multilateral institutions such as the United Nations. Beyond security and technology, the discussions highlighted significant expansions in agricultural cooperation.

President Mahama pointed to ongoing initiatives supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) which are specifically designed to boost domestic rice production and enhance Ghana’s national food security.

The President also invited further economic partnership through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that with the Secretariat hosted in Accra, Ghana serves as a strategic gateway for Korean production and exports into the broader African market.

Concluding the session, President Mahama expressed confidence that the synergy between Ghana’s natural resources and Korea’s renowned technological innovation would foster sustainable growth and shared prosperity for both countries.
