Day Two of the 61st Annual Southern Zone Inter‑Schools Sports Festival delivered a thrilling showcase of athletic excellence, with students producing some of the most compelling performances in recent years. The competition intensified across the track and field, with ZICO, KETASCO, ANSECO, KETABUSCO, ABORSCO and others battling fiercely for dominance. The day ended with multiple records shattered, new talents emerging, and school rivalries reaching fever pitch.
The boys’ field events opened with strong displays of power and precision.ZICO’s Nani Michael claimed the javelin title, followed by KETASCO’s Agodzo Bless and ANSECO’s Gbogbo Junior. KETASCO swept the long jump through Alipui Eric and Gbezeh Mawuli, while ANSECO dominated the shot put with Gakpetor Kwame and Kwawu Wonder taking gold and silver.
In discus, KETABUSCO’s Dzodzegbe Nunana led the pack, with ZICO’s Tsifoaka Sewornu and ANSECO’s Odikpo Atsu completing the podium. ANSECO’s Kotaka Gilbert soared to triple jump gold, and KETABUSCO’s Gavor Desmond topped the high jump standings.
The boys’ track events were headlined by ZICO’s sensational sprinter Bright Matsiador, who stormed to victory in both the 100m and 200m finals. ANSECO’s Afekortu Selorm and Boglo Gilbert delivered a commanding 1–2 finish in the 400m, while ZICO’s Atsu David stamped his authority on the middle‑distance races, winning both the 800m and 1500m. KETABUSCO’s Akligo Vasco dominated the 5000m, and the relays produced dramatic finishes, with KETASCO taking the 4×100m and 4×200m, and ANSECO powering to victory in the 4×400m. ANSECO’s Boglo Gilbert also claimed the 1000m title.
The girls’ division was equally electrifying, with KETASCO’s Kpordzo Kekeli emerging as one of the standout athletes of the festival. She won gold in the javelin, shot put, and discus, setting a new discus record of 28.40m to surpass the previous mark of 27.65m. KETASCO’s Awutey Hanna won the long jump, while ANSECO’s Segbe Christable and Dumeda Faith secured the top two spots in the triple jump. ANSECO’s Axovi Elizabeth claimed gold in the high jump.
On the track, KETABUSCO’s Beatrice Letsa sprinted to victory in the 100m, while ANSECO’s Atatsi Faith took the 200m. KETABUSCO’s Dogbey Charity won the 400m, and ABORSCO’s Ernestina Anani delivered one of the day’s most impressive performances by winning the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m. The relays saw KETABUSCO dominate the 4×100m, ANSECO win the 4×400m, and KETASCO take the 1000m medley.
One of the boys summed up his victory with a personal motto he lives by: hard training, easy battle. He explained that his success comes from strict discipline and an unwavering commitment to his training routine. A female athlete also shared that her strength on the track is rooted in both consistent practice and a family lineage of runners, a heritage she believes gives her a natural edge in competition.
The festival witnessed several historic record‑breaking performances. KETABUSCO’s Ganu Caroline and her team set a new girls’ 4×200m record of 01:55:89. KETASCO’s Gameli Patrick led his team to a new boys’ 4×200m record of 01:28:17. ANSECO’s Emmanuel Shaina and her team set a new girls’ 4×400m record of 04:30:29. KETASCO’s Kpordzo Kekeli established the new discus record with her 28.40m throw. Many of the record‑breakers credited their success to intense training, discipline, and in some cases, a family tradition of athletic excellence.
The soccer preliminaries added to the excitement. ZICO’s girls defeated Tsiamesco 1–0 in the opening match, while ANSECO’s boys edged AFIASEC 1–0 in a tightly contested encounter.
Day Two of the Southern Zone Sports Festival showcased the depth of talent across the participating schools and set the stage for an unforgettable tournament. With rivalries heating up and athletes pushing the limits of performance, the 61st edition is shaping into one of the most competitive and memorable in recent history.
