President John Dramani Mahama appeared before Parliament today, February 27, 2026, to deliver the State of the Nation Address, characterizing the occasion as both a profound honor and a sacred constitutional duty under Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

Addressing a packed chamber, the President described the current era as a defining moment of national renewal and restored hope, signaling a determined effort to move past previous years of economic mismanagement.

Reflecting on his own journey in public service, President Mahama noted that while the nation’s path has not always been straight, it has been defined by a resilient cycle of steady progress, setbacks, and deliberate recovery.

Central to the President’s address was the introduction of two complementary frameworks: the “Resetting Ghana Agenda” and the “Accra Reset.” These initiatives are designed to drive domestic renewal while repositioning Ghana as a strategic leader within a rapidly shifting global order.

President Mahama emphasized that Ghana’s domestic prosperity is inextricably linked to Africa’s broader progress, calling for a fundamental shift away from international dependence toward self-reliance and regional integration.

He criticized the current “rules-based international system” for often protecting the advantages of its designers, urging African nations to move from reactive postures to proactive, strategic leadership.

The President further anchored his vision in the theme for the upcoming 69th Independence celebration, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” which he described as the blueprint for his administration’s future actions.

He maintained that this theme acknowledges the difficulties the Ghanaian people have endured while confidently declaring a new trajectory for the country. To achieve this, the President committed to a course of strict fiscal discipline, transparency, and sustainable development.

He concluded by reminding the House that history teaches that prosperity is never handed out but must be built through cooperation, self-belief, and strategic alignment, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to restore confidence in the national economy.
