The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has presented a significant quantity of assorted food items to the Ghana Prisons Service to support inmates across the country during the holy month of Ramadan.
The donation, which includes bags of rice and sugar, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of tomato paste, milk, and other essential supplies, is intended for distribution to major prison facilities nationwide to assist inmates, particularly those observing the fast.
During the presentation, the Minister expressed his profound gratitude to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers and Planners, for his consistent and generous support of the Service.
Alhaji Muntaka noted that the gesture is a demonstration of compassion and solidarity with individuals in custody who are working toward successful rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Emphasizing the spiritual significance of the season, the Minister described Ramadan as a period of reflection, sacrifice, and renewal, while simultaneously reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the general welfare and living conditions of all inmates.
Receiving the items on behalf of the institution, the Deputy Director-General of Prisons in charge of Operations, Dr. Francis Omane Addo, thanked both the Minister for his continuous advocacy and Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for his ongoing partnership.
Dr. Omane Addo assured the delegation that the supplies would be managed effectively and distributed appropriately to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries across the designated facilities. The event concluded with a call for continued public and private sector support to complement state efforts in managing the nation’s correctional system and promoting the dignity of those within it.
