The Swedru Divisional Police Command has officially taken into custody three (3) students from the Swedru School of Business in connection with a violent assault on a student from Obrachire Senior High School.
The incident, which gained national attention after a video of the encounter went viral on social media, has sparked widespread condemnation and prompted swift intervention from high-ranking law enforcement officials.
The suspects—identified as Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18—were handed over to the police by the management of the Swedru School of Business at approximately 9:00 pm on February 23, 2026.
This handover followed a decisive high-level engagement between the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, and the school’s administration earlier that day.
The meeting was reportedly centered on the gravity of the misconduct captured in the footage and the necessity of ensuring legal accountability to deter future occurrences of school-based violence.
In a formal statement released by the Central Regional Public Affairs Unit, Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie confirmed that the suspects are currently being held and are being prepared for court proceedings.
The police emphasized that while the suspects are students, the nature of the alleged assault warrants a full judicial review.
The Central Regional Command has used this high-profile case to issue a stern warning to the public, particularly the youth and the student population across the country. Law enforcement officials strongly condemned the behavior exhibited in the viral video, describing it as a departure from the discipline expected in educational institutions.
The Command urged students to resolve grievances through established administrative channels rather than resorting to physical violence, noting that such acts of lawlessness will be met with the full rigors of the law.
