The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to lodge a formal protest regarding the unlawful distribution of sexually explicit images of Ghanaian women.
The summons follows reports that a supposed Russian national published the non-consensual content, an act the Ghanaian government described as a violation of national law and an affront to the dignity of the victims. During the meeting, government officials expressed their strong displeasure and sought Russia’s assistance in pursuing legal action against the individual responsible.
Ambassador Berdnikov acknowledged the severity of the privacy violations and the broader cybercrime implications, affirming Russia’s willingness to cooperate with Ghanaian authorities.
However, the Ambassador noted that he could not yet confirm the suspect’s Russian nationality. He further clarified that the name currently circulating in the media is not a recognized Russian name but is instead a vulgar expression in the Russian language. According to Berdnikov, the individual in question has reportedly engaged in similar activities in other countries, which are already under investigation by Russian experts.
Despite the lack of a formal extradition treaty between the two nations, Ambassador Berdnikov pledged that the Russian Embassy would share relevant information to assist Ghana’s efforts to apprehend the suspect.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that it will utilize its diplomatic relationship with Russia and explore all available international legal remedies to ensure justice is served for the affected women.
