The Chief Justice of Ghana has determined that no prima facie case was established in the petitions seeking the removal of the Chairperson and Deputies of the Electoral Commission, as well as the Special Prosecutor.
This determination follows a formal constitutional assessment of seven petitions directed at the Electoral Commission’s leadership and three petitions aimed at the Special Prosecutor.
President John Dramani Mahama, who had referred the matters to the Chief Justice on November 25, 2025, has been officially notified of the outcome.
The referral was made in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).
In a formal communication dated January 26, 2026, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie concluded that the various complaints submitted by individuals and groups did not disclose sufficient grounds to warrant further inquiry or the commencement of a full investigation.
This decision, confirmed by presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, effectively ends the proceedings initiated against the officials.
