The Bono East Regional Police Command has once again demonstrated exemplary professionalism and integrity after officers on duty at a snap checkpoint along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway safely recovered and returned a bag containing GHC 85,000 to its rightful owner.
The incident occurred at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026, when officers stationed at the checkpoint noticed a bag lying by the roadside, apparently fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag, which bore the name “Ofori” and a phone number, was retrieved by the team led by Inspector George Appiah. Upon inspection, the officers discovered that it contained a substantial amount of cash.
Following standard procedure, the officers immediately handed the bag over to the Regional Command for verification and further action. A call placed to the number on the bag reached 53‑year‑old businessman Stephen Ofori of Ashtown, Kumasi, who later arrived at the checkpoint to claim ownership.
Mr. Ofori explained that the money had been withdrawn from GCB Bank in Wa and was being transported to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle when it accidentally fell off. In his presence, police officials counted and confirmed the full amount of GHC 85,000.
After thorough verification and satisfactory explanation from the claimant, the police released the money to him.
The Bono East Regional Command commended the officers involved for their honesty and professionalism, and also acknowledged the vigilance of community members who helped draw attention to the lost bag. The incident stands as a reminder of the high standards of integrity expected of law enforcement and the positive outcomes that result when police and the public work together.
