The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, received the outgoing Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Teferi Fikir Gosaye, for a farewell call on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The meeting, held at the Ministry, marked the conclusion of the Ambassador’s tour of duty in the Republic of Ghana.
During the engagement, Quayson commended Ambassador Gosaye for his dedicated service and his role in bolstering the longstanding cordial relations between the two nations, which have existed since before Ghana’s independence.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the steady growth in bilateral cooperation across several key sectors, including aviation, trade, tourism, education, and institutional collaboration. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening these ties and promoting regional integration in alignment with a shared Pan-African vision.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister emphasized that intra-African trade and enhanced connectivity remain essential drivers for sustainable development across the continent, while wishing the envoy success in his future assignments.
In his remarks, Ambassador Gosaye expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Ghana for the hospitality and cooperation he experienced during his tenure. He lauded Ghana’s democratic credentials and peaceful environment, describing the nation as a stable and welcoming partner.
The Ambassador specifically noted the expansion of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Ghana as a successful benchmark for African connectivity and integration. He concluded by stressing the importance of African solidarity and the necessity of pursuing African-led solutions to continental challenges. Both officials expressed confidence that the partnership between Ghana and Ethiopia will continue to flourish in the years ahead.
