The Ashanti Region has taken a decisive step toward one of its most transformative road projects in decades, as Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene met with the Site Advisory Team to review and approve the land acquisition plan for Phase One of the Outer Kumasi Ring Road.

Phase One of the project covers an impressive 47‑kilometre stretch of dual carriageway, beginning from Etia in the Ejisu Municipality and ending at Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre North District. More than a road, this is a strategic re‑engineering of mobility across the entire Kumasi metropolitan area.

Designed as a modern bypass, the Outer Ring Road will divert traffic away from the already overburdened central business district, drastically reducing congestion and creating a dedicated corridor for heavy‑duty trucks travelling to northern Ghana and neighbouring countries. For a region that serves as the commercial heartbeat of the nation, the project represents a long‑awaited solution to decades of gridlock.

Experts say the benefits will be far‑reaching:

  • Improved road safety by separating long‑distance haulage from inner‑city traffic
  • Shorter travel times for commuters and businesses
  • Enhanced trade and logistics efficiency, especially for transit goods
  • Accelerated economic growth as communities along the corridor open up for investment
  • Reduced pressure on existing urban roads, extending their lifespan

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that the project is not merely a road construction effort but a bold infrastructural intervention that will reshape mobility, commerce, and regional development.

“This strategic infrastructure will improve safety, shorten travel time, enhance trade and logistics, and support economic growth across the Region,” he noted.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering modern, interconnected road networks that ease movement, unlock economic potential, and improve the quality of life for residents across the Ashanti Region.

With the land acquisition plan now approved, Phase One of the Outer Kumasi Ring Road moves closer to full execution—signalling a new era of mobility and development for Ghana’s second-largest city.
