Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Emelia Arthur conducted a comprehensive nationwide working tour of major aquaculture facilities across the Eastern, Volta, and Greater Accra Regions from January 30 to 31, 2026.

The two-day visit was strategically designed to assess the progress of President Mahama’s vision for a modernized aquaculture sector and to ensure that local production levels are strictly aligned with the administration’s broader national development goals.

During the tour, the Minister engaged with industry stakeholders to focus on scalable strategies for expanding domestic fish production and the seamless integration of new technologies into existing farming practices.

This initiative serves as a central component of the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, which aims to maximize industrial output and strengthen national food security. By transitioning toward technology-driven aquaculture, the Ministry intends to reduce the country’s reliance on fish imports and stabilize market prices for consumers.

Beyond production metrics, the mission highlighted the sector’s potential for generating sustainable employment opportunities for the youth and specialized professionals.

Officials stated that the visit reflects a steadfast commitment to establishing a resilient, investment-ready sector intended to drive inclusive economic growth. By providing a framework for both small-scale farmers and large-scale investors, the government seeks to increase the availability of locally sourced food products while building a robust value chain that supports the national economy.
