Ghana is set to participate in the upcoming Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting scheduled to take place in Nadi, Fiji, from February 9 to 12, 2026.

The high-level gathering will bring together attorneys general and law ministers from across the Commonwealth to address the steady global decline of the rule of law. Over the course of the three-day summit, delegates will deliberate on the implementation of robust legal safeguards necessary for democratic participation, economic fairness, and the protection of healthy communities.

The meeting, chaired by Fiji’s Minister for Justice and acting Attorney General, Siromi Turaga, is themed “Anchoring Justice in a Changing Tide: Strengthening the Rule of Law for a Resilient Future.” Discussions are expected to result in practical agreements aimed at improving access to justice and strengthening the legal institutions that underpin stable societies and environmental protection.

Minister Turaga noted that the forum will specifically explore how legal systems can remain flexible and responsive in the face of digital transformation and the ongoing challenges posed by climate change.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey emphasized that the rule of law is a cornerstone of the Commonwealth Charter and remains essential to global peace and development.

She underscored that the meeting in Fiji serves as a vital platform for cooperation to ensure that the rule of law remains a protection for all citizens, particularly vulnerable communities. In addition to the ministerial sessions, the event will feature five side events involving youth leaders and disability rights advocates to ensure diverse perspectives inform the final outcomes.

The resolutions reached in Nadi are expected to play a significant role in shaping the agenda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for later this year in Antigua and Barbuda.
