The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Tong Defa, for a farewell call on Friday, January 16, 2026. The meeting, held at the Ministry, marked the conclusion of the Ambassador’s diplomatic tour of duty in Ghana. During the engagement, Minister Ablakwa reflected on the historic and cordial relations between the two nations, praising Ambassador Tong for his proactive role in expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation throughout his tenure.
In his remarks, the Minister highlighted China’s consistent support for Ghana’s national development, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and trade. He also specifically noted the growing partnership in the green energy transition, which has become a key area of mutual interest.
Minister Ablakwa emphasized that the Ambassador’s time in Ghana was characterized by significant achievements in both bilateral and multilateral arenas, yielding tangible benefits for the citizens of both countries.
Responding to the Minister’s commendation, Ambassador Tong Defa expressed his profound gratitude to the government and the people of Ghana for the hospitality and cooperation he received during his stay.
