Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa conducted an inspection of the ongoing refurbishment project at the Kotoka International Airport VIP Lounge on Saturday while en route to a ministerial retreat. The facility, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is currently undergoing a modern transformation designed to improve the initial experience for high-profile guests, diplomats, and international investors arriving in the country.
The Minister confirmed that the renovation project is being executed at no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer. According to Mr. Ablakwa, the funding was secured through a partnership with corporate entities who contributed to the project as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives and in support of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda. The Minister emphasized that as the VIP block often creates the first impression of Ghana for eminent tourists and dignitaries, it is essential for the nation to present a world-class standard.
The refurbishment is expected to be completed within four months, at which point local creatives will be invited to provide the lounge with a distinctively Ghanaian aesthetic. Additionally, the Ministry announced a new policy for the facility that will exclusively prioritize the service of Made-in-Ghana food. This initiative aims to promote the indigenous culinary sector and showcase Ghanaian culture to international visitors.
