The Tema Regional Police Command has successfully intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a coordinated intelligence operation along the Akosombo-Tema road. The operation, which took place in the early hours of January 11, 2026, was launched after police received credible information regarding the transportation of illegal substances from the Volta Region toward Tema. This significant seizure is part of an ongoing regional crackdown intended to disrupt major drug trafficking networks.
Acting on the intelligence, police teams established surveillance near the Agomeda Junction and intercepted two vehicles at approximately 12:45 a.m. The vehicles, a white Toyota Highlander and a black Mitsubishi Pajero, were found to be carrying several compressed, yellow-wrapped parcels. The drivers, identified as 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, were immediately taken into custody. A detailed inventory conducted by the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed 872 parcels in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels in the Toyota Highlander.
The two suspects remain in police custody and are currently assisting with investigations as authorities prepare to process them for court. As part of the next steps in the investigation, the police will conduct searches at the suspects’ residences and send samples of the seized substances to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for verification. The Tema Regional Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug-related crimes and has urged the public to continue providing information to help maintain community safety.
