The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, paid a significant courtesy call on the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, at the Bank Square in Accra on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Accompanied by a high-powered delegation of over 20 paramount and divisional chiefs, the Asantehene’s visit to the central bank’s head office was framed as a vital engagement between traditional leadership and the nation’s primary economic managers. During the tour of the facility, the Asantehene described the new Bank Square edifice as a “monument to our generation” and challenged the management to ensure that the professional performance of the staff aligns with the grandeur of the institution.
In a closed-door discussion regarding the nation’s financial trajectory, the Asantehene advocated for the implementation of lower interest rates to stimulate domestic growth and private sector investment. While noting that he had come to listen rather than “preach,” he emphasized the central bank’s profound influence on Ghana’s economic fortunes and called for the state to respect the institution’s independence. His Royal Majesty underscored the importance of strengthening public confidence in financial institutions, noting that the stability of the economy is deeply intertwined with the social welfare of the Ghanaian people.
Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama praised the Asantehene for his enduring role as a pillar of stability and wisdom in national affairs. Outlining the central bank’s forward-looking vision, the Governor stated that the current economic recovery must transcend mere statistics to produce tangible improvements in livelihoods, including job creation for the youth and support for local industry. Dr. Asiama reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to maintaining a professional and independent stance to ensure that recent economic gains remain durable and inclusive for all citizens.
