The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, promoted 30 officers to their next ranks on Monday, January 5, 2026, in recognition of their exceptional conduct in two major security operations. The promotions were granted following the successful interception of a massive ammunition cache at the Kantanso Asankare Police Barrier and the dismantling of a notorious robbery syndicate active in the Ashanti Region during the Christmas season. Police leadership cited the officers’ professionalism and vigilance as the primary drivers for these career advancements, noting that their actions significantly bolstered public safety.

Ten of the promoted officers were honored for their role at the Kantanso Asankare barrier, where a meticulous search of a bus led to the discovery of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition hidden in concealed containers. The team also recovered tactical gear, including bulletproof plates, a crushed helmet, and military-style boots stashed beneath the driver’s seat. An additional 20 personnel from the Intelligence departments of the Ashanti and Ashanti South Regional Police Commands were promoted for intelligence-led operations in Manso Nkwanta and Antoakrom, which disrupted planned attacks on commuters and led to the recovery of several firearms.

During the announcement, the IGP and members of the Police Management Board commended the personnel for their courage, stating that their alertness prevented lethal weapons from reaching criminal elements. Mr. Yohuno used the occasion to urge the entire Service to maintain the highest standards of duty, reaffirming the Police Administration’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding hard work. He emphasized that the bravery displayed during these operations serves as a benchmark for the service’s ongoing efforts to protect the Ghanaian public.
