The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s healthcare landscape through major infrastructure projects and the introduction of free tertiary health education starting next year.

Speaking at the Ministry of Health’s End-of-Year Staff Durbar, the Minister highlighted a series of legislative and administrative milestones achieved over the past twelve months, including the passage of the MahamaCares Bill and the prompt settlement of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims.

He also noted significant interventions for the health workforce, such as the reduction of nursing training fees and the resolution of expired financial clearances to secure salaries for 13,500 nurses.

Looking toward the upcoming year, Mr. Akandoh announced plans to begin the construction of three new regional hospitals as part of a broader strategy to retool the sector and expand health infrastructure nationwide.

The Minister commended the resilience of doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, describing them as the backbone of the system and pledging to continue constructive engagements to resolve issues regarding logistics and conditions of service.

The event concluded with an interactive session where the Minister addressed staff concerns directly, emphasizing a national agenda focused on equitable healthcare, preventive medicine, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles for all citizens.
