On Saturday, 13th December 2025, the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra hosted a vibrant celebration of the Volta Region’s culture. The event brought together traditional leaders, artists, and guests from across Ghana and the diaspora to showcase the music, dance, fashion, and cuisine of the Ewe people.

A key moment of the day was the Durbar of Chiefs, where His Excellency Mr. Mohamad Baalbaky, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Lebanese Embassy in Ghana, delivered a thoughtful speech. He highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, mutual respect, and strong partnerships between Ghana and Lebanon. His address showed how cultural events can create opportunities for dialogue and collaboration beyond entertainment.

Frieda Yayra Amable also addressed the audience, calling for unity and shared responsibility among the Ewe people. Her message reinforced the festival’s aim of fostering togetherness and promoting the progress of the Volta Region.

The celebration featured a variety of traditional performances, including Agbadza, Borborbor, and Atsiagbekor dances, accompanied by live drumming and storytelling. These performances highlighted the rich history and artistic heritage of the Volta people.

Visitors also enjoyed the region’s famous cuisine, with dishes such as akple, fetri detsi, abobi tadi, and okrosoup. Exhibitions of local crafts and fashion provided artisans and small businesses with a platform to showcase their products.

In the evening, the festival shifted to music and entertainment. Traditional Ewe music and storytelling were followed by performances in Hiplife, Highlife, Afropop, Dancehall, and Reggae. This mix of old and new highlighted how Volta’s traditions continue to inspire modern creativity.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Black Star Experience Secretariat, and other partners, the festival successfully promoted Ewe culture, tourism, local businesses, and community unity.

The event was a clear reminder of the richness of the Volta Region’s heritage and its contribution to Ghana’s cultural landscape.
