Accra witnessed a remarkable celebration of African creativity over the weekend as the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) hosted its Ghana Awards Night, drawing together leading figures in governance and the creative industry. Among the distinguished guests were Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, Deputy Chief of Staff Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Mr. Swarnikier of Svani, and other dignitaries, who joined filmmakers and industry stakeholders to honor excellence in African storytelling and moviemaking.
The REFFA Awards, steadily positioning itself as a flagship cultural platform on the African calendar, is dedicated to celebrating outstanding filmmaking, nurturing emerging talent, and amplifying African stories on the global stage. Professor Opoku-Agyemang, serving as Guest of Honour, commended the organisers for their vision and commitment to advancing African cinema. She offered special recognition to Selasie Ibrahim for her leadership in spearheading the initiative.
In a moment that underscored the festival’s commitment to empowering creatives, Ablah Dzifa Gomashie joined the REFFA Awards team to present the Best Photography Award, encouraging artists to remain energised and innovative in their craft. She also had the honor of presenting a brand-new car, donated by Svani, to the highest award winner of the evening.
Earlier in the week, Gomashie participated in an interactive session at the same venue, engaging with the REFFA Awards team and stakeholders. The festival’s success was widely attributed to the dedication of Selasie Ibrahim, whose efforts continue to elevate African cinema and inspire the next generation of storytellers.
