Being brainwashed by the word of God is different from being deceived — Nigerian televangelist

Nigerian televangelist, Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman has cautioned the church to be careful about how they criticize pastors of scriptures which is often taken out of context.

He noted that having a scripture which indicts a pastor does not make the action divine.

“People are becoming so logical, people are becoming so political over spiritual matters. You can never ever use the energy of the flesh to walk in the spirit. You can never carry out a divine goal using fleshy energy,” he stated.

Apostle Johnson Suleman was speaking on “Point Blank” programme monitored on Facebook.

According to him, people normally ask whether they can be brainwashed with the word of God. “The word of God brainwashes people. How do people expect me to believe in something which was written by men like me though inspired of spirit? You have to be brainwashed to live your life according to the tenets of the Bible.”

He added that “God isn’t against anyone being brainwashed but against people being deceived. There is a difference between being brainwashed and being deceived. There is a difference between deception and brainwashing”.

Apostle Johnson explained that, when one decides to walk with God, then that person ios brainwashed and does so spiritual and not logical. “Because it doesn’t make sense. To open your bible to read everyday does not make logical sense; to make peace with your wife even when she deserves to be sent out of the house, doesn’t make sense; when people insult you, you don’t insult back, doesn’t make sense.”

He continued, “One needs to unlearn some things and that is not brainwashed but unlearning what our human nature has fired into our system, fired into our minds and stop being truthful. Because according to him, being truthful doesn’t necessarily mean that, that action of yours is backed by the spirit.”

He further explained that being truthful isn’t necessarily being spiritual but scripture says those who serve God must do so in truth and in spirit. “God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth and not only in truth.”

He ended by offering a piece of advise to ministers of God that, indicating that they are the main reason why the work of God is being ridiculed. Quoting 2 Corinthians 6:3, he stressed that, “We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path so that our ministry will not be discredited”.

Pastor Suleman further explained that the fact that a man of God makes a mistake doesn’t make him a fake prophet or a fake pastor.

According to him, there are genuine servants of God, but the humanity in them commits them to make a mistake. “That doesn’t mean God has disowned them, that doesn’t mean God has forgotten about them.”

“Coming out to call a man of God fake, evil, criminal, thief; if you have genuine Holy Spirit of God inside of you, you would not be comfortable to say that,” he intimated.
