The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, recently held a special engagement session for first-term Members of Parliament aimed at enhancing collaboration and bridging the communication gap between his office and the newly elected legislators. The Speaker stressed the value of such interactions and announced plans to extend similar sessions to continuing MPs, the media, and the general public through televised broadcasts.
Reaffirming the vision for the 9th Parliament, Speaker Bagbin underscored Parliament’s commitment to openness and inclusivity, highlighting the crucial need to cultivate a democratic culture anchored in integrity, honesty, civility, and active participation.
The Speaker also used the platform to encourage the establishment of a mentorship program to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience between the chamber’s senior members and the new entrants.
Reflecting on the evolution of the institution, he observed a gradual shift away from excessive partisanship toward a more mature and robust multiparty democratic environment. He specifically urged MPs to maintain their individual party identities while simultaneously upholding the values that actively advance national development.
In attendance at the event were key officials, including the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Deputy Majority Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, and the Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei.
