The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior has begun reviewing the Ministry of Defence’s budget estimates for 2026, with a focus on addressing pressing security needs. Acting Minister of Defence, Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the estimates, highlighting a significant increase in the budget allocation compared to previous years. The Ministry is seeking approval for the estimates to address critical requirements, including the urgent need for a functional helicopter for the Armed Forces.
Committee Chairman James Agalga assured the Ministry of the Committee’s support, emphasizing that the defence sector deserves priority attention. He noted that the Committee’s report will be laid before the House for debate and approval. The Ministry’s request underscores the need for enhanced capabilities to address security challenges and protect Ghana’s interests.

The Committee’s consideration of the budget estimates comes amid growing concerns about national security and the need for modernization of the Armed Forces. The acquisition of a helicopter is expected to boost the Military’s operational capabilities and response to emergencies. The outcome of the budget review is awaited, with stakeholders calling for timely approval to address pressing defence needs.
