Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, the Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for the Essikado-Kentan Constituency, delivered the Keynote Address on Monday at the 25th Anniversary of the National Blood Donors Day. Representing the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister used the platform, which celebrates the life-saving commitment of voluntary donors, to outline the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening the nation’s blood infrastructure.

In her address, Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah highlighted the specific and ongoing governmental efforts that are being implemented to meet the crucial national demand for blood. She emphasized that the primary goal of these initiatives is to substantially improve the availability of safe and adequate blood for all citizens, ensuring that the healthcare system is well-equipped to handle emergencies and routine medical needs. The 25th-anniversary celebration, held under the theme “Give blood, give hope, together we save lives,” underscores the urgency of these improvements.

The Deputy Minister provided details on the comprehensive scope of the planned interventions. These include significant improvements in physical infrastructure and logistics, the provision of modern, life-saving equipment, a review of existing blood processing fees to potentially reduce costs, and a complete overhaul of the transportation and distribution mechanism for blood products across the entire country. These targeted investments signal a major push to ensure that Ghana’s blood service is robust, efficient, and accessible to everyone in need.
