Bank of Ghana Governor, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has urged stakeholders in the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) to focus on “growth in purpose” as the market marks its 10th anniversary. Speaking at the celebration, Asiama highlighted the country’s economic progress, attributing it to disciplined policy and restored confidence. He noted that current macroeconomic indicators signal a renewed story, with improvements in inflation and cedi appreciation.
Mr. Asiama emphasized that the next decade of the GFIM should prioritize purpose over volume, with government and private issuers working together. “Behind every decline in inflation lies a rise in discipline. Behind every cedi of appreciation lies a recovery of trust,” he stated, highlighting the importance of sustained efforts to maintain economic stability.
The Governor’s remarks served as a call to action for market participants, encouraging them to strive for more than just transaction volume. The GFIM has made significant strides in its first decade, and Asiama’s challenge aims to propel the market towards a more impactful role in national development.
