Ghana has formally commended Algeria for its significant progress in national development and its steadfast commitment to Pan-African ideals, as the North African nation marked the 71st anniversary of its Revolution on Wednesday, September 12, 2025.
The celebration, held at the Algerian Ambassador’s residence in Accra, featured remarks from Ambassador Mourad Louhaidia, who recounted Algeria’s historic and inspiring struggle for independence from French colonial rule. He highlighted the nation’s post-independence achievements, including strong infrastructure development, free education, and economic diversification. The Ambassador proudly noted that Algeria remains Africa’s third-largest economy and the only country on the continent with zero foreign debt.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, reaffirmed Ghana’s solidarity. She recalled Ghana’s support for Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) during the independence struggle under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, underscoring the deep commitment both nations share to self-determination.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing cooperation in education, trade, and security, including Algeria’s scholarship programme for Ghanaian students and Ghana’s participation in the recent Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers. She concluded by affirming Ghana’s readiness to strengthen bilateral ties further through the Ghana–Algeria Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation.
