Accra, Ghana – Parliamentary committees have been urged to prioritize transparency, accountability, and good governance in their work. The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, emphasized the importance of active listening and stakeholder engagement in effective parliamentary leadership.

Committees should reflect citizens’ views in their reports, promote transparency by publishing findings online, and adopt practical measures to strengthen institutions, increase committee visibility, and build public trust and integrity in Parliament, Hon. Ayariga said.

The 1st Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, called for efforts to educate the public on the use of the Common Fund, stressing the need to correct misconceptions about MPs’ roles. The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, encouraged members to take an active interest in committee work to improve parliamentary performance and strengthen public confidence.

Presentations were made on the scrutiny of the national budget and strengthening public financial management, highlighting the critical role of parliamentary oversight in ensuring fiscal discipline and accountability.
