Newly promoted Commissioner of Police (COP) Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe officially informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, of his reassignment to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) at the national headquarters. The announcement was made during a formal courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on November 5, 2025. This visit followed his recent promotion and marked the end of his command in the Ashanti Region.
The traditional protocol of notifying the revered Asante monarch of significant administrative changes reflects the long-standing and respectful relationship between Ghana’s security services and the influential traditional authority in the Ashanti Kingdom. This engagement is crucial for ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining collaborative security efforts in the region.
During his address to His Majesty, COP Teye-Cudjoe took a moment to express profound gratitude to the Asantehene. He acknowledged that the blessings, wisdom, and directions offered by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II were instrumental in shaping his duty and ensuring success during his tenure as the regional commander. Such acknowledgments highlight the significant moral and institutional support that the police leadership often receives from the Manhyia Palace. Furthermore, the outgoing Commissioner took the formal step of introducing his successor, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto, to the Asantehene, effectively seeking the monarch’s tacit approval and blessing for the incoming leadership.
The outgoing regional commander was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation that underscored the seriousness of the transition and the respect shown to the Asantehene. The team included CP Francis Kouame Somian, the Deputy Regional Commander; Chief Superintendent Frederick Hammond, the Manhyia Divisional Commander, whose jurisdiction covers the Palace; and DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional PRO.
The composition of the delegation emphasized the institutional change taking place, with COP Teye-Cudjoe moving to an internal affairs oversight role at the national level with the PPSB, and DCOP Akoto stepping in to take charge of regional operations.
