The government, through the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has delivered anaesthetic machines to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. This move is part of the administration’s broader initiative to retool health facilities and improve the quality of healthcare delivery and patient care across Ghana.

The presentation saw the UGMC receive three machines and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital receive eight, forming part of a nationwide plan to distribute 50 anaesthesia machines in total.

Speaking at the presentation ceremonies, Minister Akandoh stressed that effective performance by health institutions hinges on adequate resources. He reiterated the government’s commitment to retooling and strengthening these facilities to guarantee all citizens access to quality healthcare.

The Minister directed that the newly acquired equipment be put to immediate use and took the opportunity to urge health professionals to treat patients with dignity and compassion, as well as establish channels for client feedback.

Furthermore, Mr. Akandoh announced forthcoming plans to post more medical doctors to district health facilities nationwide to ensure equitable access, and he encouraged new doctors to embrace postings to rural areas where the need for their expertise is greatest.

The Chief Executive Officers of both the UGMC and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital conveyed their profound gratitude for the timely support, acknowledging that the machines will significantly bolster their surgical and anaesthetic services.
