Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hosted a high-level delegation from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany at his office on Thursday, October 30, 2025, for a significant courtesy call. The German delegation was led by their Ambassador, Frederik Landshöft.
The primary focus of the meeting was to reinforce and celebrate the continued strong solidarity that exists between Ghana, Germany, and the wider European Union. This enduring relationship is viewed as crucial for promoting stability and cooperation across various sectors, highlighting a shared vision for global and regional affairs.
A significant part of the dialogue centered on the shared values and mutual commitment to democracy and freedom. Both the former President and Ambassador Landshöft underscored the importance of upholding democratic principles as the foundation for stable societies and effective governance. Crucially, the discussions also turned to the pressing security challenges currently facing the West African sub-region.
The leaders emphasized the urgent need for collaborative solutions to address these threats, recognizing that regional stability is paramount for both Ghana’s and Germany’s interests in the area.
Finally, the meeting concluded with a review of the trade and economic relations between Africa and the European Union.
The former President and the Ambassador explored concrete avenues for deeper commercial engagement and fostering mutual economic benefit. This segment of the discussion aimed at bolstering economic ties, encouraging investment, and expanding trade opportunities, reinforcing the economic pillar of the partnership between Ghana, Germany, and the EU.
