Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, November 3, 2025, received the Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, Ambassador Rune Skinnebach, and his accompanying team for a significant courtesy visit. The meeting served as a vital platform for both parties to reaffirm and strengthen the long-standing friendly ties and robust cooperation that have defined the relationship between Ghana and the European Union for decades.
Discussions highlighted the importance of maintaining this strategic partnership as a cornerstone for mutual growth and addressing regional challenges.
A key and central focus of the dialogue was the shared commitment of both Ghana and the EU to promoting and safeguarding peace and stability across the African continent. This shared interest recognizes that regional security is paramount for sustainable progress and development.
Furthermore, the discussions heavily emphasized collaboration on issues of democratic governance, underscoring the necessity of strong, transparent, and accountable institutions to ensure the political stability required for nations to thrive.
In addition to security and governance, the meeting paid particular attention to the critical area of economic development. Both former President Akufo-Addo and Ambassador Skinnebach discussed avenues for deepening economic cooperation, including potential trade agreements, investment promotion, and support for Ghana’s key economic sectors. The overarching goal of these discussions was to leverage the partnership to drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth not only in Ghana but also to contribute positively to the broader economic landscape of Africa.
