The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Mrs. Abena Osei-Asare, has issued a stern appeal to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly adhere to their scheduled appearances before the committee, cautioning them against seeking deferments. The urgency stems from a narrow timeframe; according to the Atiwa East legislator, the committee must conclude all scheduled hearings between October 27 and November 7, 2025, to pave the way for the timely presentation of the National Budget to Parliament. This condensed schedule places significant pressure on the accountability process, making compliance from invited entities crucial.
In her closing remarks at the committee’s sitting on Friday, October 31, 2025, Hon. Osei-Asare also directed a crucial request to the Auditor-General’s Department. She urged the department to provide the PAC with an updated report detailing the progress of recoveries made from past auditees. Specifically, the report must clearly delineate which institutions have successfully rectified the audit infractions identified in previous reports and which have failed to comply, information necessary for the Committee to legally enforce the next course of action as stipulated by law.
The PAC is now set to resume its critical work on Monday, November 3, 2025. The agenda for the upcoming sittings will focus on scrutinizing the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, with key state bodies slated for review. Among the high-profile institutions expected to face questioning are the Ministry of Education, the Bank of Ghana, and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), as the committee races against the clock to complete its oversight duties before the next parliamentary session begins.
