Police Bust Human Trafficking, Cybercrime Ring; Rescue 57 Nigerian Nationals

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, operating through its dedicated Operations Unit, has successfully dismantled a significant human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the rescue of fifty-seven Nigerian nationals. The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted at Adom Estates, Community 25.

The five individuals taken into custody have been identified as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko. Preliminary investigations indicate that this network lured and transported young men and women from Nigeria to Ghana under false pretenses, promising legitimate employment and educational prospects. Upon arrival, the victims, whose ages range from 18 to 26, were reportedly coerced into participating in online romance scams and other serious criminal activities.

The police operation yielded a substantial collection of evidence, including seventy-seven assorted laptops, thirty-eight mobile phones, two vehicles, three television sets, and various other internet-enabled devices believed to have been used in perpetrating the scams. The fifty-seven rescued victims are now receiving essential care and support, while the five suspects remain in custody assisting investigators. The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong caution to the public, especially the youth, to exercise extreme vigilance regarding unverified job, education, or travel offers originating from social media or unverified sources, reiterating its firm commitment to combating all forms of human trafficking and cybercrime.
