In a bold stride toward industrial modernization and regional connectivity, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Transport to extend Ghana’s railway infrastructure from the bustling Tema Port to the emerging Dawa Industrial Enclave in the Greater Accra Region. This strategic directive signals a renewed commitment to economic efficiency, labor empowerment, and sustainable development.

The extension is designed to streamline cargo movement from the port directly into the industrial zone, reducing logistical bottlenecks and accelerating the flow of goods. It also promises to improve daily mobility for workers commuting between Ashaiman and Dawa, transforming the enclave into a more accessible and productive hub.

As part of the initiative, over 100 railway workers will be transferred from the Western Region to Tema to oversee operations along the Tema-Mpakadan line. Their expertise will be pivotal in managing the expanded network and ensuring its long-term viability.
In a nod to environmental stewardship, the project will include the dismantling of outdated railway tracks, with the recovered metals earmarked for direct transport to factories for recycling. This approach not only clears the path for new infrastructure but also reinforces Ghana’s commitment to circular industry practices.
President Mahama has further instructed the Minister for Finance to resolve outstanding salary arrears owed to rail sector workers, underscoring his administration’s dedication to labor justice and institutional accountability.
With steel rails as its spine and industrial ambition as its heartbeat, the Tema-Dawa extension marks a new chapter in Ghana’s infrastructural renaissance, where movement, equity, and innovation converge on track.
