The announcement came via a formal notice issued on October 6, 2025, by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. This unexpected deferral means that the legislative body will not convene as originally planned, creating uncertainty over the parliamentary schedule and the proceedings that were slated to take place during the session.
The Speaker cited “circumstances beyond my control” as the reason for the decision to defer the commencement of the meeting. This concise explanation offers little detail regarding the specific reasons necessitating the halt to parliamentary business. The postponement supersedes the previous directive for the session to begin, which was contained in a summon notice dated September 29, 2025.
As of the notice’s publication, no new date has been communicated for the resumption of the session. The deferral, which remains “until further notice,” implies that the legislative body will remain in recess until the underlying issues preventing the meeting’s commencement are resolved. Stakeholders and the public now await a subsequent communication from the Office of the Speaker to confirm when Parliament will officially reconvene.
