On the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ghana and the Kyrgyz Republic took significant steps towards strengthening bilateral cooperation. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Jeenbek Kulubaev, to explore avenues for closer ties between the two nations.
During their discussion, Minister Kulubaev shared insights into his country’s geography and economy, expressing a keen interest in establishing stronger relations with Africa through the African Union. Education emerged as a key focus area, with Minister Kulubaev highlighting opportunities for scholarship and student exchange programs. He showcased Kyrgyzstan’s educational strengths in medical, engineering, and information technology, emphasizing the high quality and affordability of these programs.
Minister Ablakwa welcomed these proposals, reiterating Ghana’s commitment to strengthening ties with other states. Both ministers agreed on the need to develop frameworks for political dialogue and economic collaboration to translate their meeting’s outcomes into practical cooperation. This meeting reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in education, a theme also underscored at recent UNGA events.
