ACCRA, GHANA – Ghana has signed a bilateral debt restructuring agreement with the United Kingdom, marking a significant step in the nation’s debt resolution efforts. The agreement, signed by Ghana’s Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, Mr. John Humphrey, covers approximately US$256 million.

This is the third such bilateral agreement Ghana has finalized, following similar deals with France and the Export-Import Bank of China. The new partnership also includes collaboration with UK Export Finance (UKEF) to reinstate financing for several key infrastructure projects. These projects include the Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulimakom Road, the modernisation of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II, the first phase of the Tema–Aflao Road, and the redevelopment of Kumasi Central Market.

The signing ceremony was also attended by the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Christian Rogg, and other key officials. According to Dr. Forson, this milestone deepens Ghana’s partnership with the United Kingdom.
