KUKURANTUMI — The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station and the withdrawal of all personnel following a violent attack by local youth. The Eastern Regional Police Command announced the decision after the station was assailed with stones and clubs and its barracks were targeted in an attempted arson.

The attack, which occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. on September 21, was reportedly a response to the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, also known as D-ball, who had been arrested for unlawful entry and stealing. Kena was on admission at the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi at the time of his death.

A police reinforcement team was deployed to the scene and successfully restored order. The Eastern Regional Police Command has since engaged with the deceased’s family and community leaders, assuring them that a thorough investigation is underway. The Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department have initiated separate investigations into the circumstances surrounding Kena’s death.

Authorities are currently reviewing video footage of the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. The Police Command reiterated its call for the public to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
