The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has announced the launch of the Diaspora Summit 2025, an event scheduled for December 19th and 20th. Under the theme “Resetting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region,” the summit aims to strengthen the country’s relationship with its diaspora community. The event seeks to move beyond traditional dialogue and create tangible opportunities for collaboration and investment, with a focus on areas such as innovation, education, and enterprise.
During the media launch, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration, assured the diaspora community of the safety of their investments in Ghana. She emphasized the government’s commitment to building a favorable business environment. The government hopes the summit will showcase Ghana’s readiness to serve as a hub for diaspora engagement and investment across the African continent.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa highlighted the government’s dedication to leveraging the skills, knowledge, and resources of the diaspora to accelerate national development.
He acknowledged their significant contributions, which extend beyond financial remittances. Mr. Ablakwa noted that the summit would provide a platform for high-level policy discussions, business-to-business networking, and opportunities in trade, investment, tourism, and entrepreneurship. A special conference on the African reparations agenda is also slated to be part of the summit.
Echoing these sentiments, Kofi Okyere Darko, Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office, noted that the diaspora’s contributions are not limited to remittances but also include professional expertise, entrepreneurial innovation, and global advocacy.
The summit is expected to attract participants from around the world, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a key destination for diaspora engagement and investment. The event’s success is seen as crucial to Ghana’s long-term economic strategy and its efforts to deepen ties with its global community.
