The Ashanti Kingdom is mourning the loss of its revered Queen Mother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, made the announcement during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 11, 2025. Interestingly, this meeting was scheduled prior to her passing, with an invitation sent out to all members, divisional heads, and parties to attend without fail at 10:00 am prompt.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was celebrated for her wisdom, fairness, and compassion. During her reign, she championed social causes, particularly women’s health and child welfare, and launched an annual campaign promoting breastfeeding among Ghanaian mothers. Her generosity and impact were recognized by the Saviour Church, which named a school in her honor – Nana Konadu Saviour School.
The late Asantehemaa’s legacy is marked by her quiet yet powerful leadership style, which earned her respect from all walks of life. Her presence at the Manhyia Palace symbolized stability and continuity within the royal family and the broader Asanteman. A one-week traditional rite will be observed at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to honor her memory.
