The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved, the President, and the Government of Ghana following the tragic death of eight officials in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi District of the Ashanti Region. The deceased included five high-ranking government officials and a three-member crew of the Ghana Air Force.
The GJA described the deceased as gallant servants of the nation who were dedicated to serving the country, particularly in addressing the issue of illegal small-scale mining. The association recalled its cordial relations with some of the deceased, including Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, during their previous ministerial roles.
The GJA commended security, emergency, and hospital officials for their dedication to service in recovering the remains of the deceased. The association urged journalists and media houses to exercise professionalism and empathy in their reportage, calling on them to cease circulating gory images of the accident. The National Executive of the GJA has suspended all planned activities until further notice.
